Funny how things work out sometimes. I had been talking to my boss about wanting to learn more about photography and was looking to purchase my first DSLR. He said that they had a year old Canon 60D as a backup (his wife is a pro photographer) and they were looking to upgrade it if I was interested. I told him that I was looking at the Canon 3ti and he offered to let me borrow the 60D over the weekend to see if I wanted to buy it instead. After trying it out and comparing the specs on SnapSort and other photography sites such as B&H, I was hooked. The 60D had the same sensor as the 3ti but was faster and had more points of focus. The price was good so it never left my house.
Armed with a “new to me” camera and little to no knowledge
I started snapping some shots at swim and golf lessons as well as around the house. I can say for sure I couldn’t have gotten some of the shots I did at swim lessons with my other previous point and shoots. I did buy a new lens, (actually Bob bought it for me when they purchased their 7D b/c of the better price) and it is very nice. These are far from “pro” level but I am happy with them (especially I don’t know enough yet to be critical of them). I think I had RAW off and a lower level JPG quality, but hey, its a start. Here’s a link to the Flickr Set.
I also went out to Raccoon River Park later in the weekend, but I’ll save those posts for a later date. I can’t wait to learn how to take better pictures. I’ll chronicle my journey here in future posts.
